Dundee Loaf Cake
A delicious, moist cake filled with sultanas, currents, raisins and double cut citrus peel, decorated with whole, blanched and flaked almonds.
The Dundee Cake has a long history dating back to the 19th century. Rich, yet deliciously subtle thanks to it’s slow baking process it originates, as the name would suggests, in Dundee, Scotland.
Legend tells that it was first made for Mary, Queen of Scots, who had a dislike for cherries in her cakes. Queen Elizabeth II is said to have loved the Dundee cake at tea-time and there have been campaigns to give the Dundee cake PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status.
This fabulous cake from Cartwright & Butler is packed with sultanas, almonds, and citrus peel, topped with a signature wheel design of blanched and whole almonds, maintaining the heritage of this traditional Scottish recipe.
